Background

Central Co-operative Society was restructured in accordance with the Union of Myanmar Co-operative Societies Law 1992. It is a non-governmental organization and is an apex organization of Myanmar Cooperative Movement.

CCS Vision

To fulfill the economic, social and cultural needs and aspirations of our co-operative societies, and strive towards sustainable development, in accordance with co-operative values and principles.

CCS Mission

To assist our co-operatives in promoting and strengthening their social - economic enterprises, enhancement of International Relations, to organize education, training and information networking and to participate in the development of our communities.

CCS Administration

CCS is non-governmental organization. Its paramount authority is the Annual General Meeting. The Meeting is represented by (35) BOD. Day to day functions of CCS is carried out by a team of professional staff, led by Chief Executive Officer , U Kyaw Thein.

CCS Activities

● Coordinating & co-operating, co-operative development efforts
   within the country,
● Education and training co-operative members, associate
   members and staff,
● Facilitating human resource development and gender
   integration,
● Participating in International Relations activities,
● Leading and implementing other cooperative related activities for the good of the
   movement in accordance with cooperative values & principles,
● Implementing microcredit activities in urban & rural areas

Training and Education

Training & education is the most important activities of CCS. CCS training & education components include

(1) Training for BODs of societies
(2) Training of co-operative management staff.
(3) Training for microcredit loan officers
                                                         (4) Training for capacity building for CCS staff
                                                           and to promote local seminar workshop & etc.

Innovation

♦ Microcredit was first introduced in 1905 to help farmers overcome intense poverty

♦ Introducing microcredit in 2007 was the rejuvenation of microcredit in Myanmar.


♦ And to this date a total of 9 MFIs had been formed into societies, known as Microcredit Co-operative Society Ltd.

The third anniversary of the microfinancing scheme are held at the Traders Hotel on the 27th Sept, 2010. Awards were presented to successful MFIs & Co-ops.

Rainbow Mall

Sayasan Plaza, as shown below is owned by Co-operative Societies of Myanmar. The Plaza consists of A,B and C blocks. A side from 4th and 5th floor of B block which is owned by CCS, the rest of the Plaza will be transformed into a supermarket known as Rainbow Mall.
The Mall will include IT appliances and consumer commodities, so as to enhance the development of consumer cooperative. The total floor area for Rainbow Mall
is 171836.5 sq.ft . CCS will contribute a total of 20,000 shares, worth 200 million kyats.
A total of 1513.72 million kyats have been accumulated for a total of 151.372 shares on 31st Dec 2010.
